Nationally renowned artist Jac Scott ARBS, a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, is artist-in-residence at University of Central Lancashire for 2012. Based in the School of Built and Natural Environment she aims to research the notion of ‘manscape’: a concept of an illusionary naturalness of the environment by humanity, through her ‘Beautiful Dystopias’ enquiry.
Scott will liaise with industry specialists and attend selected SBNE lectures and in response create four dynamic, regularly updated interfaces where members of the university and the public, will be invited to reply. The www.beautifuldystopias.wordpress.com site is one of the project’s interfaces and therefore is of significant value. The dialogues developed from these engagements will assist in guiding the residency.
Looking at the issues from a global perspective will be supported through studying the MSc ‘Global Waste Management’ module and participating in a research visit to China in May.
At the end of the year a joint statement between the artist and UCLan will be created.
The residency has been generously supported by Arts Council England and UCLan.
